Introduction

An organizational structure lays out the important roles and positions in an organization together with the way these roles interact with each other in the organization. As a chief purchasing officer in a healthcare manufacturing company, I have the responsibility over the acquisition programs and the management of the purchases which are done in this organization.

This assignment focuses on an ideal organizational structure for this company along with details on the reporting structure, the different roles of purchasing and the roles of different positions in the company.Reporting structure

In the healthcare manufacturing company, the reporting structure is departmental; there are four main departments in the organization which work together to achieve the organizational goals. The reporting structure in the company entails having different departmental heads who have the authority to make major decisions in their respective departments. The power in the company is decentralized so that all the decision making is not done by the CEO of the company alone; the departmental heads will have the chance to make decisions that concern the departments.

The following is the ideal organizational chart for the healthcare manufacturing company for the purchasing department. The power of the purchasing will rest on the both the regional purchasing and supplies manager together with the senior purchasing and supplies manager. This is a global supply chain and the Director Purchasing and supplies will be the overall head of the global purchasing and supplies in the company who will be responsible for overseeing all the operations in the global supply chain. He/she has the most power but most of the duties that will be done by this individual are supervisory duties.

The organizational chart is a divisional structure, and this means that there will be various divisions that will all have the regional purchasing and supplies manager. All of these managers from the different regions will report to the Global Director Purchasing and supplies who will be the overall head of the purchasing and supplies function in the organization. In each region there will be different branches for the healthcare company and each branch will have the senior manager Purchasing and supplies who will be the head of the purchasing and supplies department in the organization.

Below the Senior Manager will be the Assistants; due to the nature and size of the department there will be three assistants who will be helping in the department. The evaluation of the purchases should involve quality controls that should be done to evaluate the quality of the purchases made. Quality is the most important when it comes to healthcare products and hence there is need to make sure that the products are high quality. One obstacle which should be expected is the disagreements between the managers and this should be avoided through meetings to help the managers understand each other better.

Global Director purchasing and supplies

This will be the overall head of the purchasing and supplies who will be responsible for overseeing the operations in the entire global supply chain. This individual will help enforce the global purchasing strategy.Regional Purchasing and supplies manager

This will be the head of the purchasing and supplies of the different regions in the global supply chain. Since the company has different purchasing locations, it also has different regions that work together, and this individual will help make sure that all of the suppliers and vendors in the region are aware of the quality standards of the company and make sure that they all deliver their supplies on time.

Senior manager Purchasing and supplies

At the organizational level, the senior manager will oversee the flow of purchases into the organization and will make key decisions regarding quantities, vendors and the quality

Below the Senior manager will be the assistants who will be responsible for tracking the day-to-day purchases and making sure that the supplies are delivered on time and in the right condition. The purchases and supplies assistants will work together with other personnel in the company to make sure that healthcare raw materials purchased are in optimal quality and standards.

Conclusion

The success of the purchasing and supplies depends on the way the department is integrated with and works together with other departments. The healthcare manufacturing company is responsible for the production of healthcare solutions and the quality of the healthcare products is the most important characteristic of the products.
