The sculpture Pieta by Michelangelo will be the subject of your essay. As we have studied, Michelangelos Renaissance period returns to the Greeks for inspiration and ideas. Does Michelangelo borrow more Classical or Hellenistic characteristics to create THE PIETA’? Or, does Michelangelo use qualities from both art periods? Make a statement such as Michelangelo’s sculpture THE PIETA’ contains more Classical qualities in this sculpture. Explain which themes you see: within this sculpture, the themes of humanism, idealism, and rationalism are evident. Demonstrate to the reader places or points in the statue where you see these themes and how your points illustrate these themes. DO NOT use meaningless words such as “I think,” “I believe,” “in my opinion,” etc.
