Race/Ethnicity

Please address the following topics in the form of an essay. Each topics should be between 2-3 pages in length. You are not required to use outside sources, however when you are referencing articles covered in the class you are required to properly cite the article. You do not have to have a bibliography for this test.

Each essay is worth 50 points . Full credits will be given to those who fully address BOTH TOPICS as defined by both class discussion, as well as the articles assigned for the topic. You must also discuss whether you agree or disagree with the articles. Clearly state why you agree or disagree with the articles.

Topic #1: The social Construction of Race and Ethnicity.
– How is race socially constructed? Why was race socially constructed? Using articles and or film assigned for this section, identify and discuss.

Topic #2: Representations of Race and Group Beliefs and Identity.
– Drawing from the readings in this section, and the class exercise on racial and ethnic identity characteristics, discuss whether or not you would be willing to separate yourself from your race and/or ethnicity to address racism and cultural bigotry. Do you believe that dismantling racial and ethnic groupings will address the inequality? Make sure to discuss the pros and cons of your decision.
