Duties: Practicum Connections – Shadowing Option 1

You are more or less familiar with what happens on your campus. You never know where you will end up on this journey, so you need to be prepared for everything! It’s time to branch out.

For this module, you will need to complete 2 practicum hours that you will record in your log as”Shadowing: New Grade Level.” Two options are provided in light of the fact that many schools may not be accessible.

You will complete either Option 1 or Option 2. You do not need to do both.  If schools are open, you must do Option 1!

ou need to make contact with a principal or assistant principal who will allow you to shadow him or her for 2 hours (you may break this into smaller chunks of time if you have to in order to complete observations on your conference periods).

The key is that the administrator must be at a different level than your current campus. If you work at a secondary campus (6-12), you must go to an elementary campus (PK-5) or vice versa. You can complete these hours any time during the semester as long as they are completed by the due date near the end of the semester. You will complete a brief one page reflection that you will submit at the end of the course.

Looking ahead, this is a good opportunity to make a connection for your upcoming scheduling interview.

Instructions for the reflection:

Over the course of the semester, you spent two hours shadowing an administrator who works at a different level – at a secondary school (6-12) if you work at an elementary (PK-5) school and vice versa.

Complete a one to two-page, double-spaced reflection and upload it to the dropbox titled “Shadowing Reflection: Different Level”.

Be sure to indicate the name of the school in your reflection.
Think back over those hours you spent shadowing and try to draw some conclusions. What was familiar to you? What was different? What did you learn? etc.
As you write, try to channel the voice of the author of A Visit to Anytown in the module titled Culture, Climate and Core Beliefs. Be very descriptive.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
