Professional Engagement Assignment 4: Providing Directions
For this assignment, you are going to experiment with providing and improving directions to a classmate. First, you need to select a location within a 10-minute walking distance from your Jabs Hall classroom. Please make sure your destination is one your classmate can reach while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Then, you will write directions for a classmate to follow for Professional Engagement Assignment 4. You will be assigned a partner who will follow your directions and then provide feedback on a D2L discussion board.

Using the feedback you get on those directions from your classmate, you will revise your directions. Then, you will explain how your understanding of SPACE considerations informed those changes. Though this activity might seem removed from the kind of instructions you will typically give at work, the nature of providing instructions is similar no matter the kind of directions being provided. Giving instructions to others is a fairly common workplace activity.

This assignment has three parts: (1) writing directions for Professional Engagement Assignment 4 and posting them to the discussion board, (2) revising those directions, and (3) explaining your revisions using course concepts.
1.    For Professional Engagement Assignment 4, you will post your directions to the discussion board. Include your original directions in your Low Stakes 2 document for comparison to your revised directions. The following restrictions apply to the directions:
Only written words can be used to convey the directions. You may not provide illustrations or other aid.
You may not tell your classmate the name or identity of their destination. In other words, you cannot start out by writing, Im going to tell you how to get to the SUB.
2.    Provide revised directions based on the feedback about your original directions from the classmate who followed them and from your instructor.
3.    Describe how you changed/improved your original directions (from Professional Engagement Assignment 4).
Specifically state how your revised directions differ from your original ones.
Identify how your revised directions demonstrate all five SPACE considerations (see Chapter 3 of Competent workplace communication).

Use the next pages to respond to all three prompts. Be sure to address all requirements in your response. Complete responses will include your original directions, your revised directions, and your explanation of your revisions based on SPACE considerations.
