You will focus on chapters 1-34 of The Handmaids Tale. There are a variety of themes represented in the novel such as freedom, voice, control, language, complacency, autonomy, and power to name a few. For this Writing, I want you to stop to determine a theme you found interesting in the novel so far.

Instructions:
1. Develop a paragraph (7-9 sentences) that names the theme and explore its significance

3. When writing, think and write about how this theme occurs in the novel and real life.  What connections do you see?
