QUESTIONS:

1) Discuss one or two reasons why natural selection produced a capacity to think in octopuses. Consider its body form (phenotype), its feeding and reproduction strategies, and its functional role or “job” within the ecosystem.

2) Name a couple examples of the octopus thinking you observed in the film.

3) The filmmaker anthropomorphized (gave human traits or intention to the octopus) a few times in the film. Give an example and explain why this was wrong from a biological perspective.

4) In the counting experiment above in the 6-minute video, give an explanation beyond simply counting the crabs that could explain the octopus’ predatory choices.
