Pattern of Inheritance is a project designed to follow Mendel’s Laws of inheritance predictability. Understanding the fundamental laws of inheritance is essential to identifying disease transmission patterns which are instrumental in providing quality, safe, and effective care. Genetic heterogeneity is common with both single-gene and complex multi-factorial diseases. The five primary modes of inheritance for single-gene disease included: autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked dominant, X-linked recessive, and mitochondria. In this two-part assignment, students will self-select a genetic disorder and:
1. Complete and illustrate a three-generation genetic imprinting inheritance pattern, identifying and predicting the disease transmission to the offspring(s).
2. Reflect and share, in one – two paragraphs, describe the relationship between the selected genetic disorder and a course learning module.
