After you finish reading Chapter 4, Part 1, consider the different artistic styles characteristic of the artists of the Harlem Renaissance. African-American artists used both abstraction and, at times, detailed realism in their artwork. Look again at the examples of art in Chapter 4, part 1.
In what different ways do they use abstraction? Try describing an example of abstract art by a Harlem Renaissance artist OTHER THAN Jacob Lawrence (He is discussed in Discussion C this week). Feel free to find an example online to add to the discussion if you wish. How does their choice of subject matter relate to their artistic choices or style?
