typed, doubled spaced format (including 1-inch margins),
respond to one of the two essay statements below:
1) In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Things They
Carried by Tim OBrien, the reader finds different responses by
the protagonists as they confront death. We find hypocrisy,
calls to duty, obedience, guilt, psychological numbness;
disbelief, grief, ego, joy, and callousness, just to name a few.
Based on the readings and the class discussions and your
individual perspectives, develop an analytical essay on the
theme of death and dying as addressed by the authors of these
2 readings.
