In our discussion of persuasive arguments, we reviewed a variety of logical fallacies that speakers sometimes use in their arguments. For this week’s discussion, you should choose 5 of the logical fallacies we reviewed and give a real world example of this fallacy. You should also address why the fallacy is wrong and how the speaker/writer could correct themselves to make a more logically sound argument. In your response to your classmate’s posts, you should choose 3 of their 5 real world example and suggest other ways in which the fallacy could be corrected. You should post the link containing the information of the real-world example you are discussion.
Example:
In the logical fallacy of appeal to authority, we see the fallacy in play when Tiger Woods promotes a new sports drink, claiming it has vitamins and minerals that other drinks do not contain. A correction to this might be to have a doctor or chemist talk about the vitamins in the drinks and how they differ. Another way in which the fallacy would be correct (i.e a response post) could be having Tiger Woods talk about something he is an expert in – maybe he could be promoting a new golf club that improves your swing.
