Watch the above 20 minute TED Talk, “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are”
Write a two-three page essay reflecting on each the below questions:
Do you generally agree with Amy Cuddy’s premise? Restate her main thesis briefly, then explain why or why not you agree.
Can verbal communication have the same impact on you self esteem? Why or why not? Use the information from the chapters you read this week to articulate your answers; but note there is no “right” answer. I want to hear your opinion!
Give one example where you believe your body language shapes who you are, and one example where body language will not take you far enough. (IE think of a time when YOU think a power pose could really help, and when you would need much more than a pose to accomplish a specific goal.)
Critique Ms. Cuddy’s delivery. How were her verbal and nonverbal speech elements? Be specific, give examples that are pros and cons.
Although this is not a speech, the tips in chapters 8-13, and 24-26 and the reading, “Speech Analysis How to Study and Critique a Speech” from this unit will really help you with this!
