Prompt: Connect the ideals Douglass worked for in his lifetime (education, self-determination, civil rights, freedom, identity, self expression, etc.) to life and the work of a modern Black American who continues to stand for these ideals (modern here meaning someone who was alive after 1950).
Advanced: Write a 4 paragraph essay. With an introduction, 2 developmental paragraphs and a conclusion. Your two developmental paragraphs should be organized by comparing and contrasting Douglass to a modern Black American. Each of the two paragraphs should identify a similar aspect of their lives or their works and then analyze, compare and contrast that aspect.
