You may continue with the general topic of your first paper, although now you should explore a more narrow issue concerning how that organization or leader crossed movement boundaries.  For instance, if you did your paper about Malcolm X, what was Malcolm X’s stance towards the women’s rights movement?  Or towards the antiwar movement?  Exploring this subtopic should yield an entirely different paper.

the topic I am doing is the montgomery improvement association. For this second paper my professor told me to explore MIA’s connections to other civil rights organizations which emerged after it. So the organization I am going to do is southern christian leadership conference

The second paper is intended to build upon the foundation laid in the first, in that it will ask students to explore the broader issue of intersectionality between different social movements, by exploring how a particular organization or set of organizations bridges different interests (political, racial, economic, urban/rural, etc.) in the pursuit of its goals.
The goal will be to complicate, in some way, the analysis in your first paper, by examining more deeply the array of organizations, groups, leaders, etc. that interact with, conflict with, and/or inform the topic of your first paper.  We will discuss this process in class following submission and discussion of the first student papers.
