The article that I read was titled Insufficient Sun Exposure Has Become a Real Public Health Problem by Lars Alfredsson and many others. This article explores the many benefits of exposure to the sun. The article also suggests that insufficient sun exposure is a significant public health problem. The article reviews studies and statistics about diseases and deaths related to insufficient sun exposure. The list was astounding. According to the article, studies in the past decade indicate that insufficient sun exposure may be responsible for 340,000 deaths in the United States and 480,000 deaths in Europe per year, and an increased incidence of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimers disease, autism, asthma, type 1 diabetes and myopia (Alfredsson, 2020). The main claim of the article is that Vitamin D supplements are not sufficient in preventing these diseases and sun exposure is necessary.
