Once you have completed your initial post, respond to two peers while being respectful of and sensitive to their viewpoints. Respond to at least one initial post that analyzed a different survey than you did. Consider advancing the discussion in the following ways:

· Post an article, video, or visual to reinforce a peer's idea or challenge them to see their point from a different perspective.

· Engage in conversation with your peers around survey question construction.

PEER 1-NG

The survey that I Chose to use is  “Social Justice in the United States”. One aspect I would choose to change is I would make it a little more simple and easier to follow. For example,  the other survey was super easy to follow and it makes the person want to take the survey. One aspect of an Item I would change specifically would be on the last x scale on number 7 question, it's hard to understand and can surprisingly confuse people. I also would have kept all the questions all the same type of question whether it is yes or no, or check mark/ fill in the blank for your answer. Also, "“ Is social justice important to you?” I feel it is way too vague because social justice can mean a lot of different things to different people. I feel adding another sentence to the question would make more sense and can change the answers people give.

I would say the type of scale measurement used is Ordinal.

I would say it is ordinal because it is based of the 1-5 scale, meaning the order of 1-5 where the difference between each number matters. For example 1 being the least, and 5 being the most, and in the survey there are different topics like sex, race, or age and people are asked to rank 1-5 based on least to most important.

I would choose to make these specific changes to the survey because the survey needs to be easy to understand/ follow, and reliable with good quality questions. With poor format and poor questions, it can lead to confusion and conclusion can lead to wrong answers or answers you wouldn't have got if you worded it properly.

I think appropriate survey construction relates to the programmatic theme of ethics because ethics determine whether what someone does is right or wrong/ ethical, and we must make sure we put our best foot forward when putting together a survey so that we may get the best result and therefore come to the best conclusions!

PEER 2-SD

Considering what we have learned throughout the course about effective surveys there are many item entries I would like to change to improve the effectiveness of the survey.

The first change I would implement is to change the open-ended questions at the beginning of the survey to the end of the survey or completely eliminate the open-ended questions. These types of questions motivate the respondents to put their feedback into words without restricting their thoughts. However, some people do not even realize that they care or do not care about social justice. In the same fashion, some people do not realize they engage in discriminatory behaviors, and explaining that is not easy when you are not aware of your actions. Additionally, social justice is applicable to every aspect of our society, the survey should concentrate on only one or two social justice topics. For example, race discrimination.

The scale of measurement is ordinal because it follows the answers are categorized and ranked from 1 to 5 and very not important to very important.  I think it is an appropriate scale of measurement. The ordinal scale means that the order matters but not the difference in the numbers or the wording such as legal vs. illegal, etc.

I would change questions 1 through 4. Instead, I word the questions the following way;

1. Is social justice in race discrimination an important topic to you?

2. If yes, why do you care about social justice in race discrimination?

I would eliminate or change questions 3 and 4 because people might not consciously know they are discriminating against others. and the purpose of the survey is to find what percent of the population thinks social justice is important.

Question number 5 should also be reformatted and give names to the numbers 2,3, 4, instead of only 1 and 5. For example, I would change the questions on questions 5 and 7 to reflect the exact wording and scale. Number 5 on the scale 1-very unimportant and 5-very important I would change to 1-not important, 2-least important, 3-important, 4-somewhat important, 5-very important. On question 7 I would change that whole scale because it does not measure properly. I would have a numerical rating scale similar to question 5, not a scale where they can place an X wherever they want.

Appropriate survey construction relates to the programmatic theme of ethics regarding meeting the highest possible standards that the researchers should strive to meet. It is imperative to ensure that informed consent is obtained from participants. Participants must be treated relatively, and the survey must be conducted without bias toward anyone involved, including the researcher. The participant's privacy must always be done, make the participant aware of how much privacy they can expect, whether confidentiality or anonymity. Use "blind data" if possible. Use the participant's native language, if possible. Never misrepresent or falsify data. While these are not all of the critical components in ethical research, these are some that researchers need to be aware of when constructing their survey
