Prepare your analytical essays on two of the following questions. In final essays, make sure that you argue a clear and concise thesis. 1. The colonization of the Americas was an encounter, an exchange, and collision of cultures Native American, European, and African that had been developing along completely different lines for thousands of years. Analyze the Columbian Exchange, interpreting how these three cultures collided and with what effects for the different societies. How and why did the institution of slavery start and develop in the American colonies? Assess the scale and scope of the Atlantic Slave trade and its impact of Africans, African-Americans, Native peoples, and white settlers. What reasons did colonists give for keeping slaves? On what grounds did Africans and some colonists oppose slave holding? Consider social, cultural, and economic factors.
