Perhaps one of the biggest issues the existentialists encounter is the problem of Freedom. In a well constructed paper, try to arrive at a philosophical definition of Freedom. What entailed by Freedom? In what ways do we attempt to avoid or pursue it? Using Sartre and any other philosopher of your choice make an attempt at outlining the meaning of freedom in the life of an average human being. For example, you could choose Freud, and discuss the idea of a routine – in what way is a routine freely chosen, and in what way does it hold us prisoner to itself? Please mainly use Jean-paul Sartre section in the main course reader, which is on pg. 111 to 155. You can also use Simone Weil’s Oppression and liberty reading. Freud is also in the book.
