Illegal Drug Use During Pregnancy – There have been some recent cases where mothers have been held in custody to prevent them from using illegal drugs or drinking during pregnancy on the grounds that the court has some responsibility for protecting the unborn infant.  Search the internet to find more information about these cases, and write your thoughts and the particulars of the case in the response paper. 
Some questions to be reflected in your paper are as follows;
Do you think this is a useful strategy?  Does it respect the mothers rights?  Where does the rights of a fetus begin and the rights of a mother end?  Should drug use during pregnancy be considered child abuse and therefore, punishable under the law?  What kind of punishment would be appropriate?  Should individuals who sell or serve alcohol to a pregnant woman be held accountable?
