Provide your own experience (or explanation) of a neighborhood or area in San Diego, and how it has – or has not – changed over time.  What do you think has fostered, or limited, change?  Were there ‘anchor institutions’ like a St. Mark’s Church or Cooper Union that have an important role?  What about local leaders or “characters”? What was the main physical feature – anything like a Tompkins Park, or perhaps the absence of gathering space?  Who lived there, and did that change over the time you’ve known the place?
