The overall grade in this course will include a paper that deals with some current research topic  in inorganic  chemistry. The  paper should  include 4-8pages  of  single-spaced  text including additional figures and references. The paper should be written using a standard template for communications to American Chemical Society journals, available at http://pubs.acs.org/page/jacsat/submission/jacsat_templates.html

A paper willbe worth 25% of the overall grade. A paper will be graded based on content, clarity  of  presentation,  and  comprehension  of  the material. A paper  should  contain  your original text, copying parts from books, research articles, etc. verbatim, is prohibited.

The purpose of a paper is to provide a short  and  concise  review of a chosen topic.  The material  should  include (1)  a  brief  review  of  the subject  area, (2) an identification  and importance  of  the existing problems, (3) a  description  of approaches  to  solve these problems, and (4)a future  outlook  of  the  subject  area. These  items  should  be  related  as much as possible to the material discussed in the class lectures.

Ideas  for paper topics  can  be  taken  from  recent review and  perspective articles from journals like Advanced  Materials,  Materials  Today,  Journal  of  the  American  Chemical Society, Inorganic  Chemistry and Chemistry  of  Materials.    Other  potential  sources for ideas are recent issues of C&E News, Science and Nature family journals.
