1. Final Project: A Close Analysis of Judith Jarvis Thomsons A Defense of Abortion
As mentioned above, your final project for this course will consist of a close analysis of Judith
Jarvis Thomsons article A Defense of Abortion. A close analysis consists minimally of
identifying the main argument and all sub-arguments, arranging those arguments into standard
form, and then evaluating the argument according to the relevant criteria. Work on your final
project will start immediately. There will be several times over the course of the semester when
you will be required to complete part of this project as homework. Note well that your final
project is worth a substantial percentage of your overall course grade.
