Using the information you gather from your direct observations of the College Chapel and your knowledge of religious architecture gained in class so far, write a brief, but thorough, description of this campus building, including interesting aspects of the design and decoration and using appropriate architectural terms. Drawing from your observations about how your building looks, briefly explain how it relates to the larger built environment of Carrboro Baptist Church and its meaning and function (religious and as a gathering place for college functions like Convocation). Also, consider what kinds of references are (or are not) being made to past architecture in the form and decoration of the building. I will provide you with some basic info about the architect, date of construction, and materials, but the focus of the paper should be based on your own observations and ideas.
Note: you should not present every detail from your observation notes but rather choose the most important and relevant ideas and organize them in a logical way in a well thought out, concise essay.
All applicants go through a series of tests that check their level of English and knowledge of formatting styles. The applicant is also required to present a sample of writing to the Evaluation Department. If you wish to find out more about the procedure, check out the whole process.
