Response discussion- CONCEPTS OF EPIDEMIOLOGY IN DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION COLLAPSE

This is what a peer wrote in response to my discussion posted this week

RE: CONCEPTS OF EPIDEMIOLOGY IN DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION
COLLAPSE

Hi,

I really enjoyed reading your post. I chose to discuss cardiovascular disease, and while it’s different from your discussion of diabetes, they both share a very important risk factor: obesity. I knew that obesity is a disease affecting the world on a global level, but I was shocked when reading the actual statistics found in my research. More than 1 in 3 individuals in my area are considered obese, leading to a very unhealthy population as you can imagine. In addition to just obesity, many other factors such as environmental and economical factors can play a role in not only diabetes/cardiovascular disease, but other risk factors such as obesity and limited resources. It is all a vicious cycle with each factor leading to more. Epidemiology is so important when studying the health of populations since it seeks to discover all of the risk factors that could lead to health ailments (Nies & McEwen, 2019).
