For this assignment, you need to read Allen Repko’s article “Fable of the Elephant House”.
Then complete a summary and analysis of an article.

1 . First, determine the thesis of the article. That is, what is the author trying to prove/argue?
2. Review the article again and underline key points in the essay.  Use a dictionary to look up any words you do not know. Mark up any statements that you find confusing. Write a list of the main points.
3. Provide a summary of the article, either in bullet form or paragraph form.  You may find it helpful to use your main points (located above) to help you shape your summary.
4. Now you will critically analyze the article (that is you will analyze and evaluate).
To analyze, you isolate each of the key arguments/important points made in the article (analysis mean literally “to break apart”).  Use your list of main points to help you identify the key arguments.
To evaluate you should determine how effective the overall article based on how effective the arguments/key elements are.  You can write your evaluation in paragraph or bullet form.
