Your job then is to show–through creative or analytical
meansthe effect of those elements on the work and its meaning. Your response should
always relate back to the authors purpose and the meaning of the work as a whole. If you
choose a creative option, keep in mind that you may need to provide an addendum in which
you analyze and explain what you did.
Possible Approaches:
A series of drawings of key characters, images, or settings
An essay comparing stylistic elements between short stories of one or more
authors
A pastichean imitation of the style of your authorwith an explanation of the
stylistic tendencies youre emulating
A retelling of part of the story with a meaningful change in point-of-view
A close analysis of tone in one scene, chapter, etc.
A critical essay from the perspective of a political advocacy group which would
have an interest in your reading
Any other project that achieves the goal of the assignment (see me to discuss your
idea)
