Week 4 7009

Instructions

As the administrator of a healthcare organization poised to use healthcare research and data to support its operations and deliverables, you are invited to join a quantitative research committee. As a strategic move, you decide you will invite two other junior colleagues with you to these meetings so they can help with tasks aimed at moving the committee agenda forward. To ensure that your colleagues get the best out of these meetings, which are often full of quantitative concepts and jargons, you realize it will be ideal to bring your colleagues up to speed about measurement-related concepts. To do so, you decide to use a portion of a dataset to explain key measurement-related concepts.

Using the stroke data accessed in Week 2, explain the following concepts to your colleagues so they are more comfortable with how health/healthcare concepts are measured and how data are structured in datasets.

Prepare a brief report to share with your colleagues. In this report, explain in your own words, and utilizing examples from the stroke data, the terms:

1. Unit of analysis (sometimes referred to as unit cases)

2. Sample size (sometimes referred to as a number of cases or N)

3. Variable (what variables were used to measure stroke in these data?)

4. Values (what values were used to measure stroke in these data?)

5. Levels of measurement (using the stroke dataset, provide examples for nominal, ordinal, ratio, and interval levels of measurement)

6. Categorical and continuous data

Length: 2-3 pages, not including title and reference pages

References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources

Your report should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.  Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
