In Jeff Chang’s Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, the author emphasizes the importance of the peace treaty between Bronx gangs spearheaded by the Ghetto Brothers. Chang writes, “The peace treaty had been momentous. Change was sweeping through the Bronx. Youthful energies turned from nihilistic implosion to creative explosion” (Chang 64). The positive sense of community building that resulted from the peace treaty allowed for the neglected spaces of the South Bronx to become transformative spaces of renewal, collaboration, and creativity. 1. How did physical spaces influence/allow the creative practices of early hip hop culture?

2. How were those physical spaces the result of socio-economic practices?

Cite two examples, one from this week’s readings and one from the film, to support your answers.
