to gauging your retention and comprehension of material, the purpose of these papers is to
hone your writing skills and develop your analytical abilities at a higher level than the
identifications and document analyses allow.
Specifically, the different paper questions ask you to compare and contrast topics, trace the
development of an historical theme over time, and offer interpretive arguments about
historical events.
Depending on your choice of paper topics, you ought to be able to make use of work you
already did on your IDs and document analyses.
